“UT Fosters a Hostile Environment for the African-American student”
In 1994, Kimberley, then a 22-year-old college student, wrote an explosive article that rocked Austin’s historic 40 acres, entitled “UT Fosters a Hostile Environment for the African-American student” in the University of Texas Daily Texan that changed policy in 24 hours and led to the building of the Malcolm X Lounge in Jester West Dormitory that is still on campus today.
She is the lead founder and laborer of the historic Malcolm X Student Lounge.
It was this movement that gave fire and power to encourage student leaders to request the Martin Luther King and Barbara Jordan statues now on campus. She returns annually to her Alma mater to discuss business matters, African-American history and traditions at UT-Austin.
